"My son is dyslexic." "My daughter can't read." "My child has problems with math." "Johnny can't sit still in school." "The school says Suzie's a low achiever." "They tell me my kid is slow-what does that mean?" Learning problems come in all shapes and sizes, and if left untreated they can impair our children's education and limit their prospects for the future. Our overextended educational system is ill-equipped to deal with a child needs a little extra attention because they don't learn the way their classmates do. What can a parent do to help a child who is struggling in school?
Fortunately, SRI has the solution. Many times children who are labeled with learning challenges simply don't fit into the instructional "see-say" model used by our schools. To transform learning challenges into joyful learning, we must (1) discover exactly how the child learns best and (2) create strategies to present information in ways the child can absorb.SRI begins by identifying the specific components of a child's learning strategy, which is then laid out clearly for both child and parent. If the child's learning strategy is ineffective (preventing him or her from absorbing information), we can help the child literally "retrain the brain" to learn in a more direct and effective way . Finally, we show the child how to develop new beliefs and emotions around learning , associating feelings of success, confidence, and happiness to what was previously a very painful experience. Help your child-or yourself-discover the joy of learning easily and well!
